Pyramid Lake is finally open for the season. October is float tube/pontoon boat time at Pyramid. The fish are in 15 to 65 feet of water chasing Tui-Chub. Fly fishing in those depths requires some special techniques which will be shared with anyone new to the game.
Proper equipment:
1. 6 to 9 weight rods, with a fast sinking shooting head (preferred) or full sink line. A floating line will REQUIRE break away indicators to fish 15 plus feet deep.
2. float tube or pontoon boat, best if equipped with a depth finder
3. waders, boots, fins
4. a personal floatation device (a very good idea for Pyramid)
5. leader/tippet material in 12# to 15#
You will need a permit from the Paiute Tribe - $12/day, $96/season available online in advance. No Nevada license is required. Boats with motors also require a boating permit.
Meet for lunch at the beach at the Marina at 1:00 PM. Mark will bring a large pot of soup to share; bring your own sandwich or snack. The club will provide water.
